Dear Parents,
Another interesting week for us all as we continue to grapple with remote learning. Thank you for your support during this time.
Compass
Each family have now downloaded the Compass Parent portal app, which is fantastic! Be aware that our newsletter will also be published through the Compass App regularly from now on. It will also be available on our school website page.
Some quick updates on other matters:
Athletics
The Western Region Athletics Carnival, which was to be held in Tumut, has been cancelled. Students who were scheduled to enter this event have had their times/distances submitted and a virtual carnival was created across the Western Region.
So I’m pleased to announce that 5 students from St Mary’s qualified for the archdiocese carnival. They are:
- Ryley Bartlett-Long Jump and 4 x 100m Small Schools Relay (Runner 4)
- Zayn Bartlett-High Jump and 4 x 100m Small School Relay (Runner 1)
- Amara Hockey-Discus and 4 x 100m Small School Relay (Runner 3)
- Lucas Minogue-Discus
- Jack Shang-100m Dash and 4 x 100m Small School Relay (Runner 2)
Congratulations Ryley, Zayn, Amara, Lucas and Jack!
The Archdiocesan Carnival has been rescheduled, due to the lock down situation, and a final date is yet to be confirmed. All other events beyond the archdiocesan carnival have been cancelled for 2021, so there is some flexibility with dates. We will let those families involved know details as soon as any information comes to hand.
Public Speaking
Both primary classes have completed their public speaking in class. Well done to all students for taking on the challenge of presenting a topic in this format. The next level of competition is also still to be decided for students who have qualified. We will let all competitors know as soon as we have details.
Photos of Home Learning
Please feel free to send in your photos from remote learning. We would love to do a montage of how it looks on the other side of the screen and especially any work samples of obstacle courses or science experiments. Please share to our office email address: office.stmarysbatlow@cg.catholic.edu.au
Continue to go gently this week.
Jannine
A few years ago, Pope Francis wrote a letter addressed to every person on this planet, asking us all to protect our common home, the Earth. In his encyclical, Laudato Si', Pope Francis speaks openly about the devastating effects the ecological crisis has on people and the planet.
Laudato Si’ ties in well with Keep Australia Beautiful Week (which was last week!). At St Mary’s we work hard to make sure that we care for our school environment. One way we do this is by putting our rubbish in the correct bins and keeping our playground tidy. We can’t wait to welcome all students back to our beautiful school!
Another way is encouraging students to appreciate the wonder and awe of the world around them that God has provided, by going on nature walks.
