Such tragic news has been unfolding in our small and tight knit community over the past 24 hours. Students arrived at school today with many stories of the tragedy in Mayday Rd. As a staff we listen and listen…and then move gently through the day. We send our thoughts and prayers to all family and friends of Aisha and Lailani. Mary, our Mother look after us.
Please know that our Catholic Care Counsellor, Melissa Bailey, will be in attendance this Thursday and well as Ms Deb Wild, our School Welfare Officer. If you would like to access either of these services personally or for your child, please let us know.
Next week is National Reconciliation Week and the theme for 2020 is In This Together. A wonderful theme on so many levels for us in Batlow right now. Sorry Day is Tuesday 26 May. On this day we acknowledge and recognise the injustice of the stolen generations. The day marks the anniversary of the national apology to the families by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in 2008. We invite all parents to participate with us by tracing around your hands on the card provided in the package going out to all families today. The hands will be used in an art scape on our playground next Tuesday. If ‘hands’ could be returned to us by this Friday we would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance for being part of this initiative and thanks to Ms Kelly Brown, our Classroom Assistant, who supports Aboriginal education at our school and who has helped me to coordinate several activities for Reconciliation Week 2020.
Blessings to everyone and continue to go gently.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK AND SORRY DAY
Congratulations to Morgan and Lacey who took out the Spirit Award in the RSL colouring competition held in Term 1. Unfortunately we cannot hold an assembly to present the girls with their award. Well done girls.
Full winter uniform to be worn in Term 2. A number of students have incorrect shore. We have some available in our uniform shop. Please check sizes by contacting the office.
As we are back to face to face learning please remember that it is a legal requirement that ABSENTEE notes need to be submitted for any student who is away from school.
Please do this through the Schoolzine App on the absent section.
Please ensure that WATER bottles are bought to school each day. Bubblers are not to be used in line with COVID-19 health and hygiene recommendations. Bottles will be refilled by staff if required.
As you are aware our new school and Church gates are now up.
We ask that children enter and exit the small school gate and not the Church gate so we can monitor entering and exiting each day.
Thank you for your support.
Term 2 school fee statements were emailed yesterday. If you did not receive yours, please give the office a call.
Following last week’s building resilience for families online workshops facilitated by the Quest For Life Foundation, please find the below info regarding online programs available including Moving Beyond Trauma (18-20 May) and Your Life Matters (25-27 May).
The impact of drought and bushfires swiftly followed by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is challenging the way we live our lives and interact with family, friends and colleagues. This is the first time in human history that we have collectively come to a stop. From this time of crisis, challenge and reflection can come new ways of thinking and living.
These have been subsidised and are free for all communities in the region.
